Who will Xavier miss the most in the 2014-2015 season?
The easy and most logical answer is G Semaj Christon. Who led the team in Points, Steals, and Minutes played. Who will fill his shoes? Who will put up the pts, the assists, the minutes, get to the free throw line, and play great defense? Not one person will replace Semaj, but the 2014-2015 team will.
But the departures of Justin Martin, Isaiah Philmore, Erik Stenger, and Landen Amos will also have an effect on this team, and make It harder for this years team to finish at the top of the Big East. Besides Semaj, who is the other significant loss? I say Justin Martin. Lets take a look at his breakout season, and what will be missed:
F Justin Martin: A breakout year for the RS Junior last year, was 2nd on the team in PPG (12), 3rd in steals, 77% from FT, 2nd in 3pt%, and 3rd on the team Min/G. With Martin transferring, Xavier lost their 2 top scoring players from last year. Martin was also a great DRB, ranking 2nd on the team in this category. Xavier will need to replace his scoring, especially from 3’s, by output from a combination of Myles Davis, Farr, Abell, JP Macura, and Trevon Bluiett.
What won’t be missed is Martin’s defensive play. A 0.5 A/TO ratio and 2nd on the team in TO looks to not be replicated by this team. It’s sad to see Justin Martin go, especially after losing Semaj, but with young guys like Macura & Bluiett coming in, and expected growth and improvement from guys like Reynolds, Myles, and Farr, Xavier should be fine.
