Chalmers played at Xavier from 2000-2004. He was one of the main contributing factors that led Xavier to their first elite eight appearance under Coach Thad Matta. Chalmers averaged 12.7 ppg 2.9 reb and 3.3 ast while attending Xavier. He was drafted by the LA Clippers with the 33rd overall pick in 2004. He played 34 games with the Clippers until being traded to the Timberwolves. After being traded he was released, and was never able to recover. The next couple years Chalmers tried making an NBA comeback, playing in the summer league and in some preseason games, but never could make it back. He is now playing professional basketball in the LNB Pro A/B league in France. He is currently playing for Champagne Châlons-Reims Basketball team. He signed with this team in July.

Chalmers has gone down as one of the best PG’s to ever play at Xavier. He will mostly be remembered for his contribution to Xavier’s first ever elite 8 appearance in 2004.

Interesting Fact: Mario Chalmers, of the Miami Heat, is Lionels’ cousin.
