ESPN recently released their Top 25 CBB schools “future” power rankings. This top 25 list was compiled by ESPN analysts Jeff Goodman, Jay Bilas, Andy Katz, John Gasaway, Paul Biancardi, and Eamonn Brennan. When compiling the list, these analysts asked the question: Which college hoops programs will have the most success over the next three seasons? They also took into consideration: coaching, current talent, stability of program, and program power. 3 Big East teams made this list, including: Xavier.
Xavier was ranked #17, leading the way for the Big East, while Villanova was #18, and Georgetown at #24. The Big Ten (4) and ACC (6) were the only other conferences that had more teams in the top 25. For each selection, the panelists explain why the team made the list, offer a potential stumbling block to success, and the young talent that is on the roster. This is quite the statement ESPN analysts made about the Xavier program and their potential future success. They believe Xavier will be the best team and program during the next 3 years in the Big East. Xavier still has a lot of work to do, but the growth and respect this program has already experienced and gained is incredible.
I would have liked to see the programs facilities, conference strength, fanbase, and impact on the university/college as a whole play into the equation. But overall a very creative idea by the ESPN staff, and it will be interesting to see 3 years down the road, how right or wrong these rankings were.
